Project Background
As part of my desire to improve my surfacing skills in SOLIDWORKS and, during preparation for the surfacing certification exam, I decided to develop some sketches and images for a science-fiction helmet that I had seen online into a 3D model.
The helmet sketches show an archaic form of power armour from Games Wokshop's Warhammer 40,000 universe.
The helmet is part of a self contained suit of armour, worn by space marines in battle.

I do not claim ownership of the source materials used for this project. All rights to their respective owners.
Source Materials
As can be seen from the various images, the actual details of the helmet vary from source to source.
As such, I had some artistic licence to prepare shapes and dimensions, though I would try to keep my model as faithful as possible.

The side and front view sketches would be the most useful for creating a frame around.
Initial Skeleton
Initially the source material was used to produce 2D sketches of side and front views.
A top view would also have been created if a sketch existed.
These 2D sketches were then connected with a 3D skeleton to produce the surfaces.
Surfacing
Surfaces built across the skeleton sketch, ensuring curvature continuity.
Fairness Checking
Final details added and the surfaces have been knitted together.
After completion of the surfaces, they were checked for fairness with zebra striping.
A final detail has been added to complete the model a the raised feature running down the middle of the helmet.
The concept model is now complete and can be used as the design for individual component development.
